Katia Ledoux by Mohamed Alharis

MANIFESTO

I am Katia Ledoux. An opera singer. A mezzo-soprano.

People say I have a powerful voice and expressive eyes. I love telling stories and moving my audience through deep emotions.

Opera is my preferred medium for this because I consider it one of the most emotional and complete art forms. But, I am also aware that far too many people are afraid of opera and/or grow up believing that it isn’t a space for them.

I believe it is my duty as an artist to always strive to make the world a little better with every action I take and every production I am involved in. I see my small contribution to this immense task as remaining flexible in my thinking, continuing to learn as much as possible. To watch and listen closely and help my audience to find the best tools they can to navigate this life, which can be so difficult and even unfair.

I also see my role as introducing people who are afraid of opera to a setting where they feel comfortable and inviting them to experience the wonderful world of classical music. But that also means remaining critical and addressing barriers wherever I recognize them, in order to enable and facilitate access to art and culture for everyone.
